YOUNG WINSTON

August 28th, 2007

Here is a stunt photograph of me training a falling horse on "YOUNG WINSTON". It was my first big foreign horse movie and was shot in Marrakech, Morocco and directed by Sir Richard Attenborough who I worked with again on "A BRIDGE TOO FAR". I was taught to train falling horses by a great British stuntman called Ken Buckle who was one of the first stuntmen in the UK and he had worked on "GENGHIS KAHN" and "LAWRENCE of ARABIA" etc in the old days and he had in turn been trained by the great Yakima Canutt. Standing in the background is another great British horse stuntman called Tommy Reeves who had worked on all the classic horse pictures as well. The experience I learnt on that shoot has stood me in great stead to this day.

Wow, I am impressed with you body of work. I didn't know you before but now I realize I must have been watching your work for over 20 years. Risking your life in the entertainment business is no joke. You are doing a great job (standing ovation). I will definitely be watching the Mummy 3 next year.

Thanks again Yakkaty, I am glad you have liked my movies. Vic X

Ken used to live in Ealing when i was growing up as a kid, and i used to wash his car every week.
he used to tell me all the stories of him working as a stunt man. It would be nice to see him again if anyone has any contact information please fwd to me. Thanks Marek

I guess you are talking about Ken Buckle, i am afraid Ken is now dead. He was a great friend of mine and helped me enormously when i started of and taught me so much, plus he was one of the funniest bravest wonderful people ever and as they say”they broke the mould when he died” because there is no one like him around today. Regards Vic

I used to live in Hanger Lane in the block of flats next to Ken. My husband and I had many a night drinking red wine and listening to his stories of working as a stunt man and actors he had worked with. Good times. Very sad day when he died, we lost a very dear friend but still have great memories.

Hi Joanne, i am sure i met you at “Buckle Mansions” as we use to affectionately call the [place. i think of Ken every time i drive past Hanger Lane and remember the fun times we had there such as watching his 8mm film that he shot on “Lawrence” and when we looked the spool of film was just unreeling straight onto the floor because Ken had not attached it to the reel properly. Ken was a dear friend to many people and i will always have a place in my heart for him and all he did for me, we used to get him down for Xmas and parties when ever we could and he did enjoy it so much and was a wonderful guest and story teller. Thanks for reminding me Joan. Warm regards Vic
